Ábelová is an old Novohrad village, first mentioned in writing in 1275 as Abelfeuld. It lies in beautiful hill country where the Krupina plateau meets the Ostrôžky hills — a landscape of volcanic origin with the typical scattered hill farms known as lazy.

Bralce hill (817 m) with a tourist shelter open all year and, on clear days, views of the Javorie and Low Tatras mountains. Handmade benches wait at viewpoints around the village.

The Southern cycling trail (66 km) runs through Ábelová, with several loops nearby. You can rent an e-bike at the AB laz farm.
